Barão de Cocais starts R$1,000 monthly aid for hemodialysis patients

The municipality of Barão de Cocais in Brazil began disbursing a monthly financial assistance of R$1,000 to residents undergoing hemodialysis outside the city. The first payment was made this week to 27 patients registered under the program, which was created by Municipal Law 2.279 and the amendment Impositivo 14/2025.

Eligibility requires active SUS registration, at least one year of residence in Barão de Cocais, and a medical report confirming dialysis sessions. Mayor Geraldo Abade said the benefit aims to lessen the financial burden of the treatment routine.

An audit by lawyer Priscila Viana found that the city's previously built dialysis center, Dr. José Celso dos Santos, lacked technical and financial viability and had not obtained necessary health authority approvals. The administration is now studying alternatives, including converting the building into a Center of Medical Specialties.
