Barocco Festival Leonardo Leo to perform in Mesagne

The Barocco Festival Leonardo Leo will hold a performance titled ‘La musica delle terre. Moresche, balli municipali, ground, partite su melodie tradizionali’ on Tuesday, September 8, at 21:00. The event will take place at the Castello Normanno Svevo in Mesagne.

Performed by La Confraternita de’ Musici, featuring Cosimo Prontera on harpsichord and direction alongside tenor Joann Francis Folquè, the program explores the intersection of formal composition and oral traditions. The repertoire includes morescas, ciaccone, English grounds, villancicos, and Creole dances, tracing the migration of musical motifs between Europe, the Mediterranean, and the New World.

Specific Italian compositions to be featured include works by Claudio Monteverdi, Tarquinio Merula, Marco Uccellini, and Biagio Marini. The evening will be hosted by journalist Antonio Celeste and will conclude with a tasting of local Puglian wines and products.
