Barquisimeto unveils monument to Tsunami the rescue dog

A monument has been unveiled in Barquisimeto to honor Tsunami, a rescue dog recognized for saving hundreds of people during seismic events in La Guaira. The sculpture, created by local artist Moisés Colmenares, is located at the intersection of Libertador and Bracamonte avenues.

The artwork was produced in collaboration with the Salud Animal clinic and veterinarian Anthony Landino. The statue features a base made of concrete and debris recovered from landslides caused by the seismic activity on June 24. Organizers stated that the initiative aims to promote empathy, animal protection, and responsible pet ownership to combat animal cruelty.

The unveiling coincided with the announcement of the Caninata 2026, a community sporting event scheduled for October 18, intended to support the campaign ‘No to animal abuse’.
