Barra dos Coqueiros: Driver injured after car falls into 4m crater

A man was injured on Tuesday night after his vehicle fell into a four-meter-deep crater on the SE-240 highway in Barra dos Coqueiros, Sergipe. The accident occurred around 7:50 p.m. near the bridge over the Pomonga River.

According to the Highway Police Battalion (BPRv), the driver bypassed a signaling barrier intended to mark roadwork and fell into a crater measuring approximately four meters in depth and five meters in diameter. The victim was stabilized by the Emergency Mobile Care Service (Samu) before being rescued by the Military Firefighters of Sergipe (CBMSE) using an anchoring system.

The driver was transported to a hospital for medical attention. Following the incident, local authorities, including the Municipal Superintendency of Transport and Transit (SMTT) and the Municipal Guard, reinforced safety signaling and measures at the site. The area remained isolated pending a structural evaluation of the road section.
