Barranco municipality to demolish Bordemar complex

The Municipality of Barranco has announced plans to demolish the Bordemar complex, a 15,000-square-meter boulevard located at Las Cascadas beach. The decision follows administrative proceedings regarding the unauthorized occupation of public space and the lack of required construction licenses by the operator, World Entertainment & Communication (WE&C).

Mayor Jessica Vargas stated that the action is part of a permanent policy to recover public spaces and protect beaches. Technical reports cited by the municipality indicate structural deterioration and potential risks regarding sanitation and safety, particularly in anticipation of the El Niño phenomenon. Furthermore, the Costa Verde Project Authority has confirmed it has not issued a favorable opinion for changing the area's zoning from Service Zone (ZS) to Tourist Zone 1 (ZT1).

While Bordemar administrators claim to hold a judicial document allowing for the reopening of their establishments, municipal officials, including the sub-manager of Inspection William Cornejo, have rejected the existence of any judicial resolution that would halt the administrative demolition process. The municipality is currently awaiting police support to execute the measure.
