Barranquilla appoints Jhonny Insignares as Secretary of Culture

Barranquilla Mayor Alejandro Char has appointed content creator Jhonny Insignares as the new Secretary of Culture. Insignares, known for his digital content regarding the city's history and landmarks, succeeds Johnny Vizcaíno Vargas.

The appointment has triggered administrative shifts, including the resignation of Juan Carlos Ospino, the director of the Carnaval de Barranquilla. Ospino, who previously served as Secretary of Culture, expressed dissatisfaction with the new direction, stating that culture and the Carnival cannot be managed using “influencer emotions” or “modisms.”

In addition to the cultural appointment, Erika Grau has been named to lead the Tourism Office as part of the administration's efforts to position Barranquilla as a major destination.
