Barranquilla authorities investigate homicide of Venezuelan woman
Authorities in Barranquilla, Colombia, are investigating the homicide of Yudelkys Geraldine Martínez, a 41-year-old Venezuelan national. Martínez died after spending 24 days in intensive care following a violent physical assault in the Porvenir neighborhood.
The attack occurred on August 1 after a dispute with neighbors. Reports indicate that several individuals, including four women, attacked her using fists and blunt objects such as wooden sticks. While the case was initially classified as personal injury, the Colombian Prosecutor's Office has officially upgraded the investigation to homicide following her death.
As of now, no arrests have been reported. The local community and human rights organizations are demanding a transparent investigation and the immediate capture of those responsible for the fatal assault.
