Barrick Bulyanhulu Gold Mine praised for safety compliance

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Welfare and Social Development has commended the Barrick Bulyanhulu Gold Mine for its adherence to workplace safety and health regulations. During a working visit to the mine in the Shinyanga region, committee members assessed the implementation of labor laws, environmental conservation, and community welfare initiatives.

Committee Permanent Chairperson Hawa Mchafu Chakoma noted that the mine has prioritized employee wellbeing by investing in cloud-connected technologies and automated systems. These advancements are designed to reduce worker exposure to hazards, particularly during underground mining operations. The committee also highlighted the mine’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects, which support the health and wellbeing of surrounding communities.

Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office for Labor, Employment, and Relations, Dr. Evaline Wilbard Munisi, stated that the government, through the Occupational Safety and Health Authority (OSHA), continues to conduct inspections and provide safety education. In the Shinyanga region, 871 inspections were conducted during the 2025/2026 fiscal year, with nearly 8,000 workers receiving health assessments.
