Barrick Pueblo Viejo launches biodiversity conservation exhibition
Barrick Pueblo Viejo has inaugurated a photographic exhibition titled ‘Pueblo Viejo y su biodiversidad: gestión responsable de una minería moderna’ at Galería 360 in Santo Domingo. The exhibit, which runs until August 30, features approximately 40 photographs showcasing the flora and fauna within the company’s mining operational areas.
The exhibition aims to highlight the scientific research, environmental monitoring, and biodiversity management conducted by the company’s environmental department. According to Gisselle Valera, president of Barrick Pueblo Viejo, the initiative is part of the company’s efforts to promote responsible and sustainable mining while fostering awareness regarding the conservation of Dominican biodiversity.
Visitors can explore various modules that demonstrate how scientific data and habitat studies inform decision-making for ecosystem protection. The display also features work by local photographer Timoteo, a native of the Sánchez Ramírez province.
