Barry Arrington appointed DOJ Second Amendment Section Chief

Barry Arrington has been formally appointed as the Chief of the Second Amendment Section within the Department of Justice's Civil Rights Division. The appointment was announced by Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights Harmeet Dhillon.

Arrington, who previously served as the acting chief following more than ten years of litigation regarding the Second Amendment, stated that the section's remit is to ensure governments nationwide enforce constitutional regulations regarding the people, places, and things involved in bearing arms.

The Second Amendment Section was established following a February 2025 executive order from President Donald Trump, which directed the Attorney General to assess and address potential infringements on citizens' rights to keep and bear arms.
