Barry Sheene inducted into MotoGP Hall of Fame
Two-time 500cc World Champion Barry Sheene has been inducted into the MotoGP Hall of Fame. The induction ceremony took place in London, where his son, Freddie Sheene, accepted the honor on his behalf.
Sheene, who won consecutive world titles in 1976 and 1977, remains the last British rider to win the premier class championship. His career featured 19 Grand Prix victories and 40 podiums, achieved primarily while racing for Suzuki. The ceremony also featured an exhibition of one of his racing motorcycles.
Beyond his competitive record, Sheene was recognized for his resilience in the face of severe racing injuries and his significant personality within the sport. Dorna CEO Carmelo Ezpeleta noted his unique ability to interact with fans, marking his lasting impact on generations of motorsport enthusiasts.
