BART Implements Full-Length Trains and New Schedule to Reduce Crowding

Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) will restore full‑length trains, returning to ten‑car sets after three years of shorter consists, to accommodate over 200,000 weekday riders and alleviate overcrowding.

On Monday, August 10, 2026, BART will also launch a systemwide schedule change centered on Daly City station, which will become a center‑platform station. The new timetable shifts many departures by a few minutes, narrows gaps between trains on the Blue, Green, Yellow and Red lines, and cuts transfer waits by up to 17 minutes. BART communications officer Alicia Trost urged riders to check the updated schedule before traveling.

The adjustments aim to provide more even headways, improve transfers, and reduce congestion across the network, benefiting commuters throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.
