Bartın introduces autism guide as part of national action plan

As part of Turkey's 2nd National Autism Action Plan (2023-2030), the province of Bartın has introduced a new Autism Provincial Guide. As one of 16 pilot provinces selected by the Ministry of Family and Social Services, Bartın has established an autism support network comprising representatives from public institutions and non-governmental organizations.

The guide serves as a roadmap for individuals diagnosed with autism and their families, providing information on legal rights, application processes, and available support from health, special education, and care institutions. It aims to simplify bureaucratic procedures and facilitate early guidance and local service coordination.

Under the coordination of Associate Professor Dr. Mete Artar from Bartın University, various training modules have been implemented, including Applied Behavior Analysis, Family Education and Guidance, and Communication with Special Individuals. To ensure effective implementation, supervisors have been appointed within institutions to improve communication with autistic individuals and support families. As of late 2024, there are 354 individuals with autism diagnoses in the province. Social service teams have already begun individual social service counseling and conducting home visits to assess family needs and create personalized action plans.
