Bartın University researches bioactive potential of eye lens proteins
Bartın University (BARÜ) has launched a research project to investigate the bioactive potential of proteins found in the eye lens. Led by Prof. Dr. Dursun Kısa from the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, the study has received funding through the TÜBİTAK-ARDEB 1002-A Fast Support Module.
The research aims to transform biological materials with limited direct utility into high-value biotechnological components. Using enzymatic methods, researchers will extract peptides from eye lens proteins to examine their biological activities, specifically focusing on antimicrobial activity, enzyme inhibition, and cell culture-based properties.
To characterize these peptides, the team will utilize nanoLC-MS/MS analysis to determine amino acid sequences, followed by computer-aided in silico analysis to evaluate their structural and functional characteristics. The project team includes researchers from BARÜ and Istanbul Health Sciences University.
