Bartolo Fuentes and Senator Fidel Espinoza confront violence accusations

Former Honduran congressman Bartolo Fuentes rejected a criminal complaint alleging he assaulted former deputy Katia Crivelli on May 28, 2025, inside the National Congress. Fuentes said he was the victim, claiming security‑camera footage will exonerate him and rejecting a proposed settlement of 200,000 lempiras. A hearing on the charges is scheduled for August 14.

In Chile, the Senate issued a statement on the investigation of Senator Fidel Espinoza (Socialist Party) for a possible case of domestic violence. The Senate noted that no formal complaint has been filed, urged authorities to respect due process, and called for avoiding premature judgments while the matter is referred to the Supreme Court.

Both incidents highlight ongoing scrutiny of political figures in Latin America over alleged personal‑violence incidents.
