Bartomeu Marí appointed to lead Andalusian contemporary art centers

Bartomeu Marí has been selected to lead the Centro Andaluz de Arte Contemporáneo (CAAC) in Seville and the Centro de Creación Contemporánea de Andalucía (C3A) in Córdoba. Marí, an Ibiza-born writer and curator, emerged as the choice following a public selection process that included 25 candidates and an evaluation committee composed of Miguel Zugaza, Beatriz Espejo, and José Ignacio Roca.

Marí brings extensive international experience to the role, having previously directed the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Barcelona (MACBA) from 2008 to 2015, the Museo de Arte de Lima (MALI) from 2019 to 2020, and the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in South Korea from 2015 to 2018. He also served as president of the International Committee for Modern Art Museums (CIMAM) between 2014 and 2016.

His strategic vision for the Andalusian institutions focuses on the international projection of Andalusian art, strengthening ties with the regional artist community, addressing contemporary social and intellectual challenges through exhibitions, and connecting contemporary art with other forms of heritage. The appointment will be formally proposed to the Governing Council of Andalusia by the Minister of Culture, Heritage, and Sport, Patricia del Pozo.
