Bartosz Zmarzlik keeps world lead as Anders Thomsen wins Swedish GP in Malilla

The sixth round of the 2024 Speedway Grand Prix took place in Malilla, Sweden. Reserve rider Anders Thomsen claimed an unexpected victory, beating a field that included world‑leader Bartosz Zmarzlik and British rider Robert Lambert. Zmarzlik finished third, securing his overall lead in the championship with 98 points, five ahead of Australian contender Brady Kurtz, while Lambert took second place.

Zmarzlik praised the competition, noting the fast pace and the challenging track conditions that favored the Danish rider’s outside line. He confirmed his confidence ahead of the next round, which will move to Łódź, Poland, marking the first Grand Prix event in that city. The result highlighted the rarity of a reserve winning a GP – the first such upset since 2015 – and kept the title fight among Zmarzlik, Kurtz and Lambert tightly contested.
