Barueri: Man rescued from Tietê River during police chase

A man was rescued by the Fire Department on Monday after jumping into the Tietê River during a police chase near kilometer 23 of the Castello Branco Highway in Barueri.

According to preliminary reports, the individual entered the water while being pursued by authorities. He reportedly swam approximately 50 meters to the riverbank, where he clung to branches for about an hour before rescue teams arrived. Due to difficult access to the site, firefighters had to use trails and cables to reach and retrieve him.

The operation caused temporary lane closures on the right side of the Castello Branco Highway near the Alphaville and Barueri access points. The concessionaire Ecovias Raposo Castello assisted in the response. Following the rescue, the man received initial medical attention in a vehicle and was transported for further care. The specific reason for the flight and any related crimes are currently under investigation.
