Jamao al Norte: President Abinader inaugurates Las Espinas highway

President Luis Abinader has inaugurated the rehabilitated Las Espinas highway in the municipality of Jamao al Norte, Espaillat province. The project, which cost approximately $6.3 million, involved the rehabilitation of 5.8 kilometers of road and the construction of three new bridges over the Jamao River and the Aguacate and Quebrada streams.

Executed by the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) with financing from the European Investment Bank (EIB) through the Pro-Resilience program, the infrastructure was designed with seismic and hydrological criteria to withstand heavy rains and climate change. The new road features two three-meter lanes, asphalt surfacing, LED lighting, and improved drainage systems.

The project aims to improve connectivity for rural communities such as Las Espinas and El Ramonal, facilitating the transport of agricultural and livestock products to markets. Additionally, the improved access is expected to boost local ecotourism and provide more reliable transit for residents accessing schools and health centers, particularly during rainy seasons when the previous path often became impassable.
