Baschi residents petition to join Montecchio municipality

Residents of five hamlets—Morre, Morruzze, Acqualoreto, Collelungo, and Vagli—have launched a petition to detach from the municipality of Baschi and join the neighboring municipality of Montecchio.

Promoters of the initiative state that the move aims to bring administration closer to daily life. They cite practical reasons such as territorial layout, road connections, and the distance to essential services. Residents already utilize Montecchio for schooling, healthcare, postal services, and commerce, as well as for social and economic activities.

The petition, officially presented on August 28, has already collected 285 signatures, exceeding 60 percent of the required amount from the approximately 488 registered voters in these areas. The next step involves bringing the proposal to the Baschi City Council for formal evaluation.
