Romania reports multiple major fires and social infrastructure developments
Romania has experienced several significant fire incidents and social developments across various regions. In Sighișoara, an elderly care center on Justiției Street suffered a fire that led to the evacuation of 40 residents. While most individuals self-evacuated, three required assistance from firefighters. One person was hospitalized due to smoke inhalation.
In Mehedinți, a massive fire broke out at a cellulose factory in Drobeta-Turnu Severin, engulfing a 20,000-square-meter warehouse filled with paper scraps. The scale of the blaze required the mobilization of emergency crews from multiple counties, including Dolj, Caraș-Severin, Gorj, and Bucharest. A RO-ALERT message was issued to warn local residents of the heavy smoke.
Other incidents include a large vegetation and stubble fire in Bălești, Dolj, covering approximately 100 hectares, and a fire in Botoșani involving an animal shelter. Additionally, in Târgu-Neamț, an electric motorcycle caught fire in a parking lot due to an electrical thermal effect.
In social news, the Timișoara City Hall has begun construction on a new assistance and recovery center for vulnerable seniors on Lorena Street. The project, funded largely by European funds, aims to provide services for 100 seniors and has a total value exceeding 8.3 million lei.
