Base charges deputies for opposing nuclear waste transport
Bavarian Green Party state deputies Claudia Köhler and Markus Büchler have been charged 561.91 euros each by the Federal Office for the Safety of Nuclear Waste Management (Base) after opposing nuclear waste transports.
The deputies filed objections against the planned transport of waste from the Garching research reactor FRM II to the interim storage facility in Ahaus. Base rejected the objections and issued the invoices, citing 4.5 hours of administrative work at a rate of 124.87 euros per hour for address verification and correspondence.
Köhler criticized the fees as “Abzocke” (rip-off), arguing that the high costs are inappropriate and may prevent citizens from exercising their rights. Base maintains that while successful objections incur no costs, unsuccessful ones are subject to fees for administrative actions. A total of six objections were reportedly rejected and charged the same amount.
