Base Power scales home battery business with $13 B valuation and new 39.2 kWh Core system
Base Power, the Texas‑based home‑energy company co‑founded in 2023 by Zach Dell, son of Dell Technologies founder Michael Dell, announced a new $1 billion Series D round that lifted its valuation to $13 billion. The firm aims to place its Base Power home‑battery system in every U.S. backyard and eventually expand to markets such as the U.K., Germany and Australia. Base Power now operates a manufacturing plant in Austin, Texas, with a larger second factory slated for completion in 2027.
The company’s latest product, the Core battery, stores 39.2 kWh—about three times a typical home battery—and can keep a house running for up to 36 hours during a grid outage. Installation takes less than an hour, and the system can switch to battery power in 50 ms, work with rooftop solar and feed stored electricity back to the grid as part of a virtual power plant. In Texas and Illinois the Core is offered with a $695 installation fee, a $19 monthly membership fee and a fixed electricity plan, allowing customers to lower their energy costs while providing grid flexibility.
