Basecamp Research secures $140m for AI-driven therapies

UK-based Basecamp Research has secured $140 million in an oversubscribed Series C funding round to advance its AI-designed therapies and train its next generation of EDEN biological foundation models. The financing round was led by S32, with participation from investors including Catalio Capital Management, European Tech Collective, Firebrand River Capital, Nvidia, PostScriptum, Redalpine, The Rockefeller Foundation, Singular, Sovereign AI, and True Ventures.

The company focuses on in vivo cell therapy, a method that involves reprogramming a patient’s cells inside their body. Basecamp Research utilizes AI models trained on biological data, specifically its Trillion Gene Atlas, to design long DNA sequences. This technology aims to address the high complexity and manufacturing costs currently associated with cell therapies.

To support its growth, the company has appointed former Biogen executive Richard Pearce as chief business officer and added S32 general partner Andy Conrad to its board of directors. The funding will also facilitate the expansion of pharmaceutical partnerships.
