Basel region announces new sports portal and temporary facilities

New sports developments are underway in the Basel region. IG Sport Baselland has launched a new multimedia web portal, baselbieter-sport.ch, to highlight local athletes, clubs, and events. Managed by IG Sport Baselland under an agreement with the Sportamt Baselland, the platform includes a podcast, news articles, an event calendar, and a historical database of regional sporting achievements dating back to 1904.

In Basel-Stadt, the Erziehungsdepartement has announced that Messe Basel will provide a temporary 2,000m2 sports area to accommodate clubs affected by the renovation of the Bäumlihof sports halls. This temporary facility will be available from October 12, 2026, to December 12, 2027. The space is intended to support various activities, specifically catering to handball clubs with specialized flooring and netting, though it may be temporarily cleared for major exhibitions like Art Basel.
