Basel-Stadt police to charge occupiers for Klybeck-Areal operation costs

The Basel-Stadt Cantonal Police have announced that two individuals involved in the occupation of the Klybeck-Areal will be held liable for the additional costs incurred during a police operation.

During an eviction at Klybeckstrasse 229 in early July 2026, a man and a woman refused multiple orders to leave the roof of a building. Their refusal forced the police to extend the operation for more than a day to maintain a necessary deployment. Although the individuals eventually left the roof voluntarily on July 2, the police determined that the additional expenses caused by their intentional behavior would be billed to them in accordance with police regulations regarding willful or grossly negligent causes of deployment costs.
