BASF project utilizes industrial heat pumps to recover waste heat
Piller Blowers & Compressors GmbH is supplying eleven VapoFlex® compressors for one of the world’s most powerful industrial heat pump systems, currently being installed at the BASF site in Ludwigshafen.
The project utilizes Mechanical Vapor Recompression (MVR) to recover industrial waste heat. This process involves taking steam that is initially under vacuum and at low temperature and pressure, raising it through multiple compression stages, and feeding it back into the steam network.
This technology, integrated into the CompriVAP heat pump system by Austrian plant engineer GKT, aims to significantly reduce energy consumption and CO2 emissions by repurposing heat that was previously released into the environment.
