Bashir Abdi withdraws from Chicago Marathon due to injury

Belgian record holder Bashir Abdi has withdrawn from the upcoming Chicago Marathon due to a calf tear sustained during training. The injury occurred during a track session following a training camp in Font-Romeu, France.

Abdi, a two-time Olympic medalist, had targeted Chicago for his autumn season after previously achieving a third-place finish in the city in 2023. While the injury is considered minor, it forces him to cancel his planned participation in the event. However, his team indicated that participating in another marathon before the end of the year remains a possibility.

The Chicago Marathon is a World Marathon Major known for its fast course through 29 city neighborhoods, starting and finishing in Grant Park. The event features a 6-hour and 30-minute time limit for participants to reach the finish line.
