Bashkir Curly horses draw attention to Patagonia's Línea Sur

The Línea Sur region in Río Negro, Patagonia, is gaining attention for its unique Bashkir Curly horses. This equine breed, which is nearly extinct in South America, is characterized by its distinctive curly coat that feels soft to the touch, similar to a mix between sheep's wool and horsehair.

The curly coat is a seasonal feature most visible between May and October. The horses at the Yeguada Rodríguez in Maquinchao are descendants of animals that once lived wild on the Somuncurá plateau. The Rodríguez family, led by veterinarian Gerardo Rodríguez, has worked to breed and preserve the population, creating a specialized tourism experience in the region.
