Basic Books Group has highlighted several labor history titles, including works that examine the evolution of work and inequality.

In ‘Work Won’t Love You Back’, Sarah Jaffe explores the ‘labor of love’ myth, arguing that the idea of pursuing passion over pay can lead to exploitation and a ‘new tyranny of work’.

Additionally, Jacqueline Jones’s Pulitzer Prize-winning book, ‘No Right to an Honest Living’, provides a historical account of Black workers in nineteenth-century Boston. The work details how, despite the city’s reputation for radical abolitionism, Black Bostonians faced significant barriers to equal employment opportunities before, during, and after the Civil War.
