Basij commander assassinated in southeastern Iran
A female commander of the Basij militia, identified as Afsaneh Aghila, was shot dead outside her home in Mehrestan County, located in Iran’s southeastern Sistan and Baluchestan province. The incident marks the second assassination of a female official in the province within a single week.
This follows the recent death of Major Nosrat Eftekhari, the province’s deputy police chief, who was killed in a roadside bomb attack. Local Iranian media have attributed the killings to terrorists linked to the United States and Israel, though no specific group has claimed responsibility.
The series of attacks highlights an escalating security situation in the border region, specifically targeting officials within the police and paramilitary forces. The Basij units involved operate under the authority of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
