Basildon family left homeless after e-scooter battery fire

A family in Basildon, Essex, has been left homeless after a fire destroyed their home. The blaze originated in the kitchen when an e-scooter battery caught fire while charging.

Firefighters arrived to find the property heavily smoke-logged. Crews managed to bring the fire under control and prevented it from spreading to a neighboring residence. The occupants were able to evacuate safely and contact emergency services.

Watch Manager Joe Fisher of Rayleigh Fire Station noted that e-scooter batteries can explode under high temperatures. Fire officials are urging the public to monitor e-scooters closely while charging, use only manufacturer-recommended parts, and avoid leaving devices unattended during the charging process.
