Basiliano car accident kills two young sisters

A fatal car accident in Basiliano, near Udine, has resulted in the deaths of two young sisters. The incident occurred on August 23 when a vehicle driven by the father struck a plane tree along the Pontebbana state road.

The eldest daughter, aged 11, suffered cardiac arrest immediately following the impact and passed away while being transported to the hospital in Udine. The younger sister, aged 4, succumbed to her injuries in the hospital after medical staff attempted resuscitation.

The father, who sustained non-serious injuries, was discharged from medical care. He informed authorities that he experienced a sudden medical episode while driving. Preliminary tests for alcohol were negative, and investigators have seized a smartphone to determine if mobile device usage contributed to the crash.
