Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar renovates lighting with LED technology
The Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar in Zaragoza has completed a lighting renovation of its High Altar and Holy Chapel. The project, driven by Fundación Endesa in collaboration with the Cabildo Metropolitano de Zaragoza, involved the installation of 126 LED luminaires.
The upgrade significantly improves energy efficiency, reducing the total installed power from 14.90 kW to 4.606 kW, a decrease of 69.1%. This transition is estimated to save approximately 22,540.94 kWh annually and reduce CO2 emissions by about 5.64 tons per year.
Beyond energy savings, the new system allows for individual regulation and programmable lighting scenes. This enables the Basilica to adapt illumination for liturgical celebrations, guided tours, and specific architectural or sculptural elements while reducing glare.
