Basilicata approves regional law on renewable‑energy environmental compensation
On 24 July 2026 the regional council of Basilicata approved a new law governing environmental compensation for large‑scale renewable‑energy installations such as wind and solar farms. The legislation creates a regional fund financed by contributions from operators whose projects impact multiple municipalities. Funds will be used to lower electricity bills for households and businesses, to finance additional private renewable projects and to cover compensation for landscape impacts, with a maximum payout of about 3 % of the plant’s projected production value. The law was promoted by Environment and Energy Transition assessor Laura Mongiello, supported by President Vito Bardi and highlighted by health‑policy assessor Cosimo Latronico, who said the measure “turns the region’s energy wealth into a direct benefit for families and firms.” The text also introduces strict territorial‑impact measurement and aims to align the ecological transition with social equity in the region.
