Basilicata and Italian Cycling Federation sign cycling tourism pact

The Territorial Promotion Agency (APT) of Basilicata and the Italian Cycling Federation (FCI) have signed a memorandum of understanding in Matera to promote cycling tourism in the Basilicata region.

The agreement aims to establish Basilicata as a recognized cycling destination through several initiatives. The FCI will provide training courses for cycling guides, promote training camps for Italian national teams within the region, and assist APT in marketing tourism packages on national and international networks. In return, APT will manage communication campaigns, support sector-specific events, and facilitate the hosting of national teams.

Key upcoming actions include: • From October 11 to 17, 2026, the national cyclocross team will hold training sessions along the Basilicata Coast to Coast route, based in Fardella. • Four training sessions for tourism operators are scheduled for this autumn in Matera, Val d’Agri, Vulture, and Lagonegrese-Pollino. • The FCI will remap 21 existing routes totaling 1,700 km within the ‘free to move’ app, including organic tracing and georeferencing for the entire Coast to Coast route.
