Basilicata implements 25 million euro relief for agricultural crisis

The Italian agricultural sector, particularly in the Basilicata region, is facing a systemic crisis driven by rising production costs, high energy prices, and intense international competition. Industry representatives from Legacoop Agroalimentare and Cia-Agricoltori Italiani have warned of a potential collapse, citing high raw material costs and a market flooded by imports that drive production prices to historic lows. This instability affects key sectors including wine, rice, and olive oil.

In response to farmer protests, the Basilicata Regional Government, led by President Vito Bardi, has announced a 25 million euro support package. This includes 10 million euros in immediate liquidity to combat high diesel costs, 10 million euros for broader production costs via European CSR programming, and 5 million euros for natural disaster relief. Additionally, 7 million euros have been identified to support the transport and logistics sectors affected by fuel price hikes.

Despite these measures, some agricultural organizations remain critical, arguing that the regional response lacks sufficient financial coverage and long-term structural planning compared to other Italian regions.
