Basilicata holds innovation and environment summit in Brussels
The Basilicata region hosted a two-day initiative in Brussels titled ‘Basilicata a Bruxelles: competenze, reti e opportunità europee’. Promoted by the regional departments of Environment and the Presidency, the event aimed to strengthen the region's role in European decision-making processes and bridge the gap between EU policies and local territorial needs.
Key participants included representatives from European institutions, the Joint Research Centre (JRC), and various European networks such as Nereus, Errin, and the Alliance of European Regions for Water Resilience. A central focus of the summit was the strategic use of space technologies and satellite data from the Copernicus program to monitor environmental health, prevent hydrogeological instability, and manage water resources.
Regional leadership emphasized the importance of inter-institutional cooperation and scientific rigor. As a founding member of the Nereus network, Basilicata seeks to leverage space innovation and research partnerships to drive economic growth and attract high-value investment to its industrial areas and local villages.
