Basilicata introduces 2.50 euro pharmaceutical ticket

The Basilicata regional government has introduced a new fixed pharmaceutical ticket of 2.50 euros per prescription, effective September 1, 2026. The measure aims to contain pharmaceutical spending after the region's expenditure reached 7.45 percent of the regional health fund in 2025, exceeding the 6.80 percent ceiling by approximately 8 million euros.

Regional councilor Roberto Cifarelli has challenged the decision, requesting clarification on the mathematical basis for the 2.50 euro fee and the projected revenue for the region. While acknowledging the need to address budget overruns, Cifarelli argued that the administration must demonstrate the proportionality of the measure and provide details on the number of citizens affected and the specific exemptions provided for vulnerable groups.
