Basilicata officials debate active aging laws to combat elderly isolation

Regional Councilor Roberto Cifarelli has questioned why Regional Law No. 29 of 2017, which aims to treat seniors as active community resources rather than mere recipients of assistance, has not been fully executed. The law was designed to integrate health, social participation, culture, and lifelong learning through a structured framework including a regional consultative body and triennial intervention programs.

Concurrently, discussions highlight a growing demographic crisis in Italy as the population ages at record rates. Experts suggest a paradigm shift is needed to move away from emergency-based responses toward a model that integrates healthcare, social, and economic actions.
