Basketball tournament in León to honor Urbano González

The I Memorial Urbano González Escapa will be held on September 5, 2026, at the Urbano González Escapa Municipal Sports Palace in León. The basketball tournament honors the late León basketball legend, who played a key role in the ascent of Elosúa León to the Liga ACB.

The event features four high-level teams: Real Madrid, Baskonia, San Pablo Burgos, and Argentina’s Boca Juniors. Two matches are scheduled for the day: San Pablo Burgos against Boca Juniors at 18:00, followed by Real Madrid against Baskonia at 20:00.

The tournament serves a charitable purpose, with proceeds dedicated to ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) research through Fundela. Urbano González, a former player, firefighter, and beekeeper, passed away in January 2026 after a three-and-a-half-year battle with the disease. Tickets go on sale starting August 12, 2026, with prices beginning at 19 euros.
