Basking shark sighting draws crowds in Nova Scotia
A massive basking shark, estimated to be approximately 30 feet long, drew large crowds to the Halifax waterfront in Nova Scotia over the weekend. The sighting occurred near the Bedford Basin Yacht Club, where onlookers gathered to watch the animal swim near the surface and weave among boats in the marina.
Witnesses described the encounter as both exciting and daunting. The Marine Animal Response Society reported that the shark appeared to be swimming freely and looked healthy. As a filter feeder that consumes plankton, the basking shark is not a threat to humans despite its significant size.
