Baskonia club faces boycott calls over upcoming games against Israeli teams

The activist group Palestinarekin Elkartasuna has called for a boycott of two upcoming EuroLeague basketball games in Vitoria, Spain. The club Baskonia is scheduled to host Hapoel on November 17 and Maccabi on December 4, both teams from Tel Aviv.

The collective demands that Baskonia refuse to play these matches, accusing the EuroLeague of being complicit with the Israeli state. They argue that these sporting events serve to “wash” Israel's image and normalize its actions on the international stage.

In addition to the club's management, the group has directed its demands at Basque public administrations, including the Basque Government, the Provincial Council of Álava, and the Vitoria City Council. They are calling for these institutions to revoke the use of public facilities for the matches to prevent what they describe as the presence of “sporting ambassadors” for the Israeli government.
