Basler BT-67 conducts geological surveys over Alsace

A Canadian-registered Basler BT-67 aircraft is conducting low-altitude geological survey missions over the Bas-Rhin region in Alsace. Operating from the Karlsruhe Baden-Baden airport in Germany, the aircraft is performing geophysical studies on behalf of Bell Geospace under contract with Lithium de France.

The mission aims to map the composition and structure of the subsoil to support projects related to lithium extraction and deep geothermal energy. The aircraft utilizes specialized instruments to measure variations in Earth's gravity and magnetic fields, allowing scientists to create three-dimensional maps of the underground rock formations.

The current campaign, which resumed on October 26, 2026, is scheduled to continue through the end of the month, depending on weather conditions. The flights occur during daylight hours, with the aircraft changing sectors daily and flying at minimum altitudes of approximately 270 meters.
