Basın‑Sen condemns breach of collective agreement and cyber attacks on Cyprus media
The Press Workers' Union (Basın‑Sen) issued a written statement recalling that Ektam Kıbrıs Limited’s workers secured a collective bargaining agreement under Dev‑İş, but the new operator, SAREX Trading Limited, has refused to recognise it. The union called on the government and the Ministry of Labour and Social Security to enforce the agreement and protect the workers’ hard‑won rights, describing the employer’s stance as an "open attack on collective bargaining, union organisation and basic work‑life standards."
In a separate statement, Basın‑Sen condemned recent cyber attacks targeting Cypriot news outlets, noting that the removal of Özgür Gazete’s accounts on Meta platforms demonstrates a direct threat to press freedom. The union affirmed that "press and expression freedom is our honour and we will not compromise on it," pledging to continue joint resistance against such assaults and to hold perpetrators accountable.
