Basovizza memorial honors anti-fascist victims

At a ceremony in Basovizza, Trieste, officials and speakers gathered to commemorate the execution of four members of the anti-fascist organization ‘Borba’—Ferdo Bidovec, Fran Marušič, Zvonimir Miloš, and Alojzij Valenčič—who were sentenced to death by a fascist special tribunal.

Senator Tatjana Rojc addressed the event, stating that while Basovizza serves as a symbol of Slovenian anti-fascism, its meaning is increasingly universal in the current era. She characterized the rise of certain European political trends as a form of ‘intolerant nationalism’ and emphasized the importance of the friendship and cooperation between Italy and Slovenia as a safeguard for the rights of national communities.
