Basque Country natural landscapes and mountain villages
The Basque Country offers diverse natural landscapes for travelers seeking disconnection, including the Aramaio Valley and the Aralar Natural Park.
In the Aramaio Valley, often referred to as the ‘Basque Switzerland,’ the area is characterized by its green geography and traditional architecture. Ibarra Aramaio serves as the administrative center, featuring stone farmhouses and the baroque Town Hall built between 1742 and 1746. The landscape is defined by dense forests of beech, chestnut, and oak trees, with notable views from the Puerto de Cruceta.
In the southern part of Tolosaldea, the Aralar Natural Park spans nearly eleven thousand hectares across Gipuzkoa. This karst mountain range features a landscape of limestone labyrinths, caves, and valleys. The village of Abaltzisketa serves as a primary gateway to the park and a base for climbing the Txindoki peak. The area is known for its rustic atmosphere, traditional cider, and historical landmarks such as a 16th-century church.
