Basque Country: PSOE projected to lead in polls amid government reshuffle

A Sigma Dos poll predicts the PSOE will lead the upcoming general elections in the Basque Country, securing six of the 18 available seats. This result would break the three-way tie between the PSOE, EH Bildu, and PNV, which saw each party hold five seats in 2023. The PP is projected to maintain two seats, while Sumar is expected to lose its single seat from the previous election.

Concurrently, the Basque Government is facing a significant reshuffle. Lehendakari Imanol Pradales must fill two key vacancies following the departures of high-ranking officials. Javier Hurtado, the Minister of Tourism, Commerce, and Consumption and Secretary General of the PSE in Álava, is stepping down to run as the socialist candidate for the Congress of Deputies in the November 29 general elections.

Additionally, Vice Lehendakari and Minister of Culture and Linguistic Policy, Ibone Bengoetxea, is leaving her post to run for the Bizkaia provincial council in the 2027 elections. These departures necessitate a restructuring of the coalition government, with the PSE-EE and PNV expected to propose successors for their respective portfolios.
