Basque cultural awards recognize journalism and literature

The 2025 Basque Journalism Awards and the 2026 Euskadi Literature Awards have announced their recipients in Bilbao and other regional cities.

In Bilbao, Ane Gantxegi Agirre received the second Kazetariak-Deusto Prize for the best undergraduate thesis in Communication and Journalism. Her videopodcast, ‘Loturak’, was honored for its sensitive and audacious exploration of the consequences of parental separation. The award was presented by the University of Deusto in collaboration with the Basque Association and College of Journalists.

The Euskadi Literature Awards recognized excellence across several categories, including poetry, translation, essay, and children's literature. Winners include Eli Tolaretxipi, Matias Mujika Franco de Medinaceli, Jon Gerediaga, and Mikel Ayestaran, alongside previously announced laureates such as Ixiar Rozas and Yolanda Arrieta. Each award includes a grant of 18,000 euros, with potential increases for works published in additional languages. The formal ceremony is scheduled for November 20 at the Euskal Museoa in Bilbao.
