Basque cultural initiatives launch in Argentina and Spain
The Betirako Basque dance group from the Gure Etxea Center in Tandil, Argentina, has begun a two-week cultural immersion and training trip to the Basque Country. From August 30 to September 13, a 13-person expedition will participate in dance courses with local experts and perform at various festivals. The group is scheduled to perform on September 8 in Donibane Lohizune during institutional events organized by the Basque Government for the 2026 Basque Diaspora Day.
This initiative is part of the ‘Herencia Viva-Herentzia Bizia’ project, which was recognized as being of municipal interest by the Municipality of Tandil. The project also includes a documentary of the same name, which explores the deep Basque roots and identity maintained in Tandil.
In Bilbao, Spain, the BilbaoDendak organization has resumed its HemenGO Shopping program. The initiative offers various routes, tastings, and workshops designed to revitalize local commerce and connect citizens with neighborhood businesses. The program, which recently received the Euskadi Award for Commercial Area Dynamization, includes activities such as vitamin tastings in the Casco Viejo and creative poetry workshops in Bilbao La Vieja.
